SIR, — Like countless others, I reuse my plastic bags as bin liners. If there were no plastic bags, I would have to buy bin liners — which are plastic bags. Surely the best thing to do would be to ban the manufacture or import of these bags and allow only

SIR, - Like countless others, I reuse my plastic bags as bin liners. If there were no plastic bags, I would have to buy bin liners - which are plastic bags.

Surely the best thing to do would be to ban the manufacture or import of these bags and allow only the biodegradable kind. If they are more expensive to make, I am sure there are very few of us who would object to paying a copper or two for them.

In that way we would have our shopping bag/bin liner and even the people who are not interested in climate change would be conforming.
