SIR, - So here in Redbourn we need £7,500 to finance police services in the village replacing our Police Community Support Officer (PCSO).

Could I suggest that this sum could be raised by applying the law and fining the speeders, non-seat-belt users and mobile phoneys whom you are able to see any day on the 30/40 limit on St Albans Road, Dunstable Road and Lybury Lane.

At £60 a pop, I calculate that it would need only 125 of them to be stopped to raise this sum and judging from the number who can be seen at any time on the above roads, it would take about three weeks to raise the sum.
