FORMER St Albans-based accounts manager Joanne Steadman has followed her dream to open a bed-and-breakfast in Cornwall seaside holiday destination Bude.

She and her husband, Dave, and their daughter Emma have revamped the Tee-Side Guest House, opposite the Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club, a few minutes walk from award-winning beaches.

Joanne said: “We love this area because of the beaches, the walking tracks and Bude’s community feel. It’s a great holiday destination.

“We had been coming here for 30-odd years and so when the chance came to buy a bed-and-breakfast opposite the golf course, we decided it was the opportunity for a change in lifestyle.”

The traditional Victorian terraced seaside guest house, which boasts country views, has four rooms, all en-suite, including one on the ground floor.

The spic-and-span Tee-Side has been completely refurbished and has received plenty of compliments about the new décor and its cleanliness.

Joanne said that since moving to Bude for a sea-change, she has been surprised at the number of golfers visiting the guest house, and overseas visitors.

Discounted green fees and day membership can be arranged for the 18-hole Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club, one of Cornwall’s finest links courses.

Bude itself has plenty to offer visitors, from coastal path walks over sandy beaches to cycling trails and of course surfing.

Former British, English and European surfing champion Mike Raven and his team of professional coaches are based at Widemouth Bay in Bude.

Bude is also an ideal place to base yourself to travel to popular places including Boscastle, a small fishing village with a scenic harbour, Tintagel and the Eden Project, a spectacular horticultural experiment with tropical plants inside huge greenhouses.

Emma said that Bude is also renowned for its jazz festival and the Leopallooza, a small festival held in nearby Week St Mary.
