SIR - In St Albans on Bank Holiday Monday I was disgusted to find that almost every car on single yellow lines had been ticketed.

This is the first occasion I have ever seen this happen in St Albans and find it disgusting and worrying. There were no signs that told motorists they could no longer park on single yellow lines on a Bank Holiday. In most of the country, a Bank Holiday is much like a Sunday, meaning that you may park on single yellow lines.

I was also disgusted at the fact that two traffic wardens were doing this side by side taking intermediate cars to ticket. I believe that many newspapers around the country have run stories as the council could generate up to £30,000 for 500 tickets which I would say were easily issued.

This is a confusing issue as on previous Bank Holidays people have been able to park on single yellow lines without complaint.
