SIR - I would like to say a big thank you to the Mobile Library Service who provide an invaluable service to those who are elderly and housebound.

They come out in all weathers to ensure that their customers don't miss out on the opportunity to obtain nearly all the services a static library provides, with a friendly smile and a leisurely chat.

Just how personal a service this is came to light recently when Nick Hancock realised that a 102-year-old customer was no longer able to read even the large print books being provided so he decided to try and find some books with a photo of old St Albans for her to look at and reminisce.

He managed to find a book with a photo of the lady in question in as a 14-year-old schoolgirl taken in 1921! Her delight was clear to see, showing the book to her visitors and pointing out the photo of herself as a schoolgirl, providing many hours of topical conversation.

So, on behalf of Mrs Ida Pyne and the many other customers who benefit from this service, thank you to all concerned and keep up the good work.
