Foxholes Care Home in Hitchin offers scenic surroundings with first-class facilities. In summer 2019, they will open nine independent living suites.
Surrounded by 18 acres of countryside and landscaped gardens, Foxholes has a setting that is hard to beat.
It’s not just the scenery that separates it from a typical residential home either. The spacious property boasts an impressive array of facilities including a hair and beauty salon, orangery, shop, cinema room and library. Adding to its long list of credentials, the ground floor is in the early stages of a major refurbishment, and when finished, will offer a luxurious independent living area with outdoor access.
Here, we take a closer look at Foxholes and what’s in store for the future.
In a bid to create a more luxurious living experience, Foxholes is currently in the process of transforming the ground floor into nine brand new suites. Designed for independent living, each suite will include a bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette and lounge with doors opening out onto a patio overlooking the horse paddock.
The new suites will be available to rent in July 2019 and will be separate from the main care home—although residents will still benefit from full access to all facilities.
Plans are also underway for a new hair salon and spa with massage and therapy rooms, as well as a stylish new restaurant, movie lounge and library.
Neil Gandecha, estate manager at Foxholes, is confident that these new independent living services will offer something unique compared to traditional care homes.
“What sets Foxholes apart is the amount of space, flexibility and comfort we offer. Our new ground floor suites are perfect for younger residents who want their own independent living space with outside access.
“We put our residents needs first, ensuring that we offer comfortable and convenient living spaces. Each room will be built to a high spec and have lovely views of the grounds.
“As well as updating the décor throughout the ground floor, we will also be adding spa facilities and a restaurant, providing a more luxurious experience for residents rather than traditional care home living.”
Although the new suites will be aimed at residents who wish to live independently, the existing care packages will still be available for those who require extra help.
Foxholes will be offering year-long leases on the new suites, which Neil says will provide extra flexibility for elderly people who may be concerned about their future health needs but don’t want to commit to buying an apartment or room in a residential care facility.
“The idea is that residents will be able to settle into their new home and get a feel for the place before making a long-term commitment or having to sell their home.
“It also means that if they do require a higher level of care or assistance later on, they don’t have to go through the hassle of moving into a new facility—they can just transition into the care home within the complex.”
Care home facilities
Foxholes offers a range of assistive living care services, including long-term residential care and palliative care, as well as respite and recovery packages. The residential home employs a professional team of staff who are experienced in helping with a variety of physical and sensory problems.
Residents at the care home enjoy spacious en-suite rooms and a range of facilities. Quiet rooms and comfortable lounges are on every floor with a choice of five separate dining rooms.
Surrounding the luxury care home is 18 acres of beautiful grounds. Residents can enjoy living in the countryside and soaking up the views from the spacious patio areas and sweeping terrace overlooking the picturesque horse paddock.
Foxholes believe that providing nutritious food is of utmost importance and have an in-house kitchen run by a skilled chef. Meals are served three times a day in the relaxed bistro and orangery. There is even an ice cream parlour which is popular with the residents and their families when they visit.
“Foxholes is known for offering superb quality meals, all freshly prepared in-house every day,” says Neil.
“Our chefs make every effort to consult with residents when they first arrive to ensure they understand their preferences.”
For residents who want to stay active and stimulated, Foxholes has a dedicated activities coordinator. Yoga, pub quiz nights, entertainers and arts and crafts classes are among some of the activities on offer. If residents want to visit the local shops or theatres, transport is provided. Day trips further afield can also be arranged.
“There’s always something fun going on for those who want to take part. At Foxholes, our priority is our residents—their happiness is our happiness,” concludes Neil.
