Sir, - The H1N1 virus spreads just about as quickly worldwide whether the latest Archbishops' advice is taken or not: that the communion cup should be withheld from communicants until further notice and everyone should wash their hands of responsibility if any one dies of 'flu'. This incidentally brings the established church in line with practice by Roman Catholics.

But the whole 'Elf'n'Safety' business in this case seems to be a smoke screen to take the minds of voters off economic problems so that they do not ask about the cause of those problems that is close to home. Clergy and religious people will continue to speak out on those much more important matters which the culprits, whoever they are in government or business, try to bury under such ineffective public relations. Faint heart never won fair lady, and the women's vote will decide the outcome of the coming general election before this scaremongering runs its course.
