SIR, - Excreta, faeces, pooh -there is no pleasant word for it because it is not pleasant. Humans avoid it as a topic in polite conversation and engineers construct elaborate mechanisms to dispose of it unseen.

Unfortunately dogs just drop it where it falls and their human guardians have the responsibility of disposing of it. This week my mail box has been inundated with complaints from parents of young children who find that, at least on our St Albans estate, and I'm sure elsewhere, dog owners are not disposing of their pets' pooh and it is left as a real danger and health hazard for innocent young children.

Dog owners should show some responsibility and dispose of their pets' pooh, please.
