SIR, - One challenge I enjoy is not to get confused by conflicting information from St Albans District Council. At present one set of information in previous leaflets and current website, informs us that soon we will all be issued with two wheelie bins and they will be compulsory. Another piece of information came in the form of a small green (joke) leaflet, delivered presumably to all households, whether or not they green recycle at present. This ordered us to contact client services if we are not at present recycling!

The councils - and the Green Party - keep banging on about not using plastic bags. Yet the advice from the council is to wrap potentially-smelly waste that will be placed in the fortnightly "Residual Waste" bin in......plastic bags. This latter advice seems common sense to most people, especially in warm weather. They will either have to buy such bags or gratefully receive them from supermarket shopping.
