SIR, - Re Peter Willsohn's comments (Herts Advertiser, July 10) in respect of the post office in Batford. As a local women's club in Batford for the last 45 years we take umbrage that someone from the Beesonend area of Harpenden can state that no one in Harpenden or Batford is aware of the existence of our local post office.

We disagree with his comments. Many of our members are from this area and use the post office frequently. Dave and Sheila go out of their way to help all the residents, especially the elderly. Has Mr Willsohn stood in the queues for the Post Office? Obviously not as he thinks it is obscure.

Mr Willsohn must be new to Harpenden and does not know local history. He talks about "getting rid of an unmerited post office and concentrating on saving the significant and important ones". Does this include the post office at Southdown that obviously he must use as being closest to where he lives? I suggest he comes down to our lovely post office and queues up on any week day and then tell the people of Batford that we are "obscure".

LEASIDE WOMEN'S CLUB,

Batford Memorial Hall, Harpenden.
