SIR - I wish to draw your attention to the terrible state of the car parks at Harpenden Station. The east (older) car park is bad at the best of times with poor drainage, large loose stones strewn around the surface and a thoroughly-nonsensical entrance and one-way arrangement which leads to long delays at peak hours.
This week, however, the cold snap has demonstrated just how bad a deal we are getting for our outrageously expensive (£869) season tickets. There was no sign of any attempt to grit either car park on Monday despite very icy conditions and snowfall. At the evening rush-hour, cars and people were sliding around everywhere and the situation was extremely dangerous. I could not see any NCP staff present at any time. The surfaces did not look any better on Tuesday morning.
First Capital Connect (FCC)/NCP are charging a premium rate for car parking and their customers are entitled to expect a premium facility in return. Instead, service levels have been falling almost as quickly as prices have been rising. We are being taken for a ride and, as with our dismal experience on their dirty, overcrowded and unreliable trains, it isn't a very comfortable one.
