SIR - In response to Robert Hill's letter 'Peace breached' (Herts Advertiser, November 5) it may be assumed that his complaints have been directed at the profane language and noise of the Harpenden Rovers Football Club.

One Acre, as it is affectionately known, has been their home for many years. One acre out of 300 of common land leased from the council for the benefit of a football match or two is small change.

"Tempora mutantur" and with it the people; perhaps some of these "ancient" laws need updating to suit the times.

Having attended the same "alma mater" as your correspondent and having participated in school football matches with him, it would seem that our wonderful English language is as colourful as ever!
