SIR, - Am I alone in thinking that the 20-minute power cut in Harpenden last Wednesday morning, May 7, resulted in temporarily easing rush-hour traffic congestion?

Certainly, vehicles passing through Luton Road were moving rather better without the aid of the traffic lights around the Old Bell/Roundwood Lane area.
