SIR, - On behalf of Grove House we must apologise to the Robertson family for disturbing their sleep on the night of June 28 with our Midnight Walk. We take these comments very seriously, and we will ensure that marshals are briefed to keep their noise down in residential areas.

As organisers we felt that the safety of our women walkers was paramount and therefore we had to choose a route that was well lit. This did mean that the majority of the 10-mile walk passed through built-up areas, and we hope that other residents were not similarly inconvenienced. If people were woken, please accept our sincere apologies.

We would like to thank all the women who sacrificed their sleep and joined us on June 28. Please take a bow as you have pledged over £80,000 towards Grove House, securing our much-needed services and giving us the confidence to continue to increase the care that we can offer to this community. Thank you to all of you who sponsored walkers and all those who helped us on the night. You are all stars who came out at midnight (sorry!).

PAUL PARRISH,

Fundraising Director, Grove House.
