SIR, - I was shocked and saddened on Tuesday in Harpenden's Station Road post office to witness waiting customers verbally abuse staff. While I appreciate the frustration over longer-than-usual queues, nothing is to be gained by such unacceptable behaviour towards pleasant, hard-working employees.

It is important to remember that the inconvenience experienced by customers in no way compares with the difficulties of remaining staff or the devastation of those who have lost their jobs in closed branches.

DAWN BROWN,

Amenbury Lane, Harpenden.
