Fleetville Festival of local music celebrates its 10th year
PUBLISHED: 16:00 10 March 2016
Music in the local community will be celebrated at the annual Fleetville Festival this Sunday, March 13.
Now in its 10th year, the festival at St Paul’s Church in Blandford Road has proved to be a major attraction for everyone interested in getting involved in music in the area.
Among the highlights is an opportunity for local children to play a medley of songs alongside the 20-piece Fleetville Swing Band and a performance of songs from the swing and jazz era and movie scores from the All Comers Band.
There will also be performances by the Fleetvile Madrigal Choir, accapella group Fleetville Harmony, ukulele band Katie’s Jumping Fleas, Fleetville Infants School Choir and DaCapo Music.
Fleetville Festival was the brainchild of late local resident Paul Olive, who wanted to bring the community together around music.
He established the all-comers Fleetville Orchestra at the first Festival in 2007 which led to the creation of Fleetville Swing Band.
The festival runs from 2.30pm to 5pm and refreshments are provided for a suggested donation.
