Anyone who has studied the poet Keats will recall autumn as a “season of mists and mellow fruitfulness”, full of apples and bees. A harvest poem, it sounds idyllic and a far cry from my failed attempt at growing tomatoes this year.
I expect that, over the last three months, most of us have had a ‘moment’. Perhaps something quite trivial, but the straw that broke the camel’s back.
We watched Captain Tom celebrate his 100th birthday live on TV, with Michael Ball singing and a Spitfire and a Hurricane flying overhead. What a day that must have been for him, although he appears to take it all in his very modest stride.
