Anyone else really missing being able to travel, to go on holiday or visit family and friends? We are lucky that we have many different food cultures in Herts, which means at least we can eat our way around the world.
Eating in is the new eating out (at least for a little while) so I have a great new food delivery company to tell you about. Two friends messaged me to say ‘You have to try Plantopia’, and I am so glad they did. We ordered dinner for the night of the St Albans fireworks, and it was a real treat to have delicious food delivered to the door, which we ate outside watching the fireworks around us.
A new restaurant opening in these weird times is a brave move, and is guaranteed to get a lot of interest. Megan’s has just opened in central St Albans where The Old Bell was, and given that the prominent site had been empty for years, I am very glad to have a new place occupying the space.
I am a big fan at looking at what we can do, rather than what we can’t – and the events this year of the St Albans Food and Drink Festival show that there is plenty out there to enjoy while we get through these weird months. Throughout September this year’s festival has seen special films and mini events focusing on some of our local food heroes, producers and market stall holders, as well as smaller pop-up markets in the town centre.
September is traditionally a time when we come together to celebrate the amazing food and drink in our city, and this year is the same – although a little different! For this year’s St Albans Food and Drink Festival the plan is to have not one, but four festivals!
With delivery and takeaway more popular than ever before, it has been interesting to see the rise in new ideas to get delicious food and drink to hungry customers. Graze boxes are the latest thing, and are popping up all over Instagram – the idea is you get a box of delicious snacks, beautifully arranged, delivered to your door – perfect for a special occasion or gift.
