A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after they crashed while attempting to flee from the police.

The incident took place at around 11.43pm yesterday (Wednesday, May 8) on Hatfield Road, St Albans.

At that time, the motorcyclist failed to stop for Hertfordshire police before colliding with a another vehicle.

The driver of the other vehicle was unharmed, and the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "A collision occurred around 11.43pm yesterday (Wednesday 8 May) in Hatfield Road, St Albans, when a motorcycle collided with another vehicle after failing to stop for officers.

"The motorcyclist was taken to hospital for treatment and remains in a serious condition. The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured.

"As a matter of course, the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct."
