Permission has been granted for a Radlett home, garage and gym to be demolished and a three-storey block of flats constructed in its place.

Eight three-bedroom flats will be included in the block, to be created at 14 Watford Road after permission was granted yesterday (Monday, April 22)

Basement level parking will feature electric vehicle charging points and a cycle store. The construction of a bin store and "associated landscaping" will also take place.

Each flat will feature a living room, kitchen-dining room, cloakroom, dressing room and en-suite.

A previous application proposed that four houses and a block of four flats would be created at the site.

This application was withdrawn in March 2023, after concerns were raised by Hertsmere Borough Council.

Following a number of meetings with the local authority's planning committee, the new plans were developed.

A design and access statement, included within the accepted plans, states: "The proposed scheme will aim to contribute to sustainable development in Radlett by developing a large plot to provide much needed housing and utilising renewable technologies, such as air source heat pumps as an alternative to gas boilers.

"The development will be sustainable, environmentally responsible and reflect the needs of the local community, providing much needed housing.

"The scheme will provide high-quality architecture and standards of residential accommodation, making excellent use of a large plot in a sustainable location.
