St Albans is next on the list for a sales director who is completing a triathlon in all 78 UK cities this year.
The challenge, which launched in Oxford on April 15, saw Alex Davis of Equate Group visit Everyone Active's Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre in St Albans at 8am on Tuesday, April 23.
The gruelling challenge aw Mr Davis, a non-professional triathlete but a dedicated sports enthusiast, facing a 72.7-mile swim, a 1938.6-mile bike ride, and a 484.6-mile run.
However, the physical and mental feat isn't only personal: it's to raise £15,000 for three charities close to his heart.
The chosen beneficiaries are National Paralympic Heritage Trust, Auto Raise, and Oxford Hospital Charity.
Sarah Vaccari, from Oxford Hospitals Charity, said: "We want to wish Alex all the very best on this challenge to complete 78 triathlons in 78 cities in just nine months: what an incredible thing to do.
"We are really thrilled that he and the Equate Group have chosen to support Oxford Hospitals Charity as one of the causes they are fundraising for.
"We know our hospitals hold special place in Alex’s heart and his fundraising will help us continue to make a difference in our NHS Trust, funding additional specialist medical equipment, creating more welcoming hospital spaces and supporting our patients, young and old when they need it most."
Alex Davis said: “I’m very lucky to have close ties to these three charities through family, friends and work.
"At their core they are all passionate about people.
"Why 78 triathlons in nine months? I say why not.
"Sport is a shared experience and I know it’s not going to be straightforward with the weather, health and logistics, but I’m supported by an amazing family at home, colleagues at Equate Group, customers and my business networking groups around the UK who will be with me all the way.
"I’ll be sharing the challenge in person and online.
"The funds raised will be going to very worthy charities so please give generously."
