PICTURED: St Albans' Verulamium Park impacted by flooding

Verulamium Lake has burst its banks, with benches, bins and the closed toilet block surrounded by water.

The footpath on the east side of Verulamium Lake is now completely under water.

Flooding can also be seen close to Holywell Hill and Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre, where birds have been spotted enjoying a new-found lake.

In the early hours of this morning, Hertfordshire police confirmed that "several reports of flooding" had been received across the county.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "Motorists are advised to please take extra care on the roads and allow more time for journeys.

"Please do not attempt to drive through flood water."

Elsewhere, part of the the A41 near Hemel Hempstead has been described as a "mini-lake".

Across the county, there are "flooding is possible" level alerts from the Environment Agency for the Middle River Colne (Watford), Upper River Colne and Radlett Brook (near London Colney), River Lee at Hertford, River Stort and Stansted Brook catchment (Stansted area), and River Ash (near Bishop's Stortford).

Intermittent rain is expected in St Albans until 11pm tonight, with a 70 per cent chance of showers at 4pm according to The Met Office.
