Hertfordshire's Papa Johns stores could be at risk, with the popular pizza chain set to close up to 100 locations across the UK this year.

There are currently 524 Papa Johns locations across the country, including spots in Stevenage, Hitchin, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Potters Bar, St Albans and Harpenden.

The retailers has yet to announce exactly how many stores will close and which ones will go, but it could be as many as 100.

"As our second largest global market, the UK is critical to Papa Johns' long-term success," a Papa Johns spokesperson told The Sun.

"As we work to fully optimise our restaurant operations and improve profitability across the market, we will continue evaluating the growth potential of our restaurants.

"This includes working collaboratively with our franchisees to strategically close low-performing locations when necessary, as well as continuing to invest in the right locations for the benefit of our customers.

"We will work to fully support team members through any transitions.

"However, it's important to note that no final decisions have been made at this time."
