TALENTED young dancer Remy O'Brien is celebrating after being given one of just 12 places at the prestigious Royal Ballet School.

The 11-year-old from Wheathampstead, who has been dancing since she was a toddler, secured a place at the famous school in White Lodge, Richmond Park, out of around 1,000 entrants.

Remy, who is currently a student at Beech Hyde School in Wheathampstead, will get a mixture of intensive dance training and academic subjects at her new school where she has chosen to board during the week.

Remy started at the Wheathampstead Dance Academy aged three where she continues to attend lessons by Nicola Bowden and Melanie Pope. She said that she owes her success to the support of her dance teachers.

Remy trains five days a week, which includes spending Saturdays at the London Senior Ballet where she practises for an hour on pointe.

Remy recently entered the Scholarship Day at the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) headquarters in Battersea and won the London Region Award, giving her a prize of £200 off any RAD summer school, workshop or class.

She is also into the final of the Fonteyn Nureyev Young Dancer of the Year award in April, along with another of her ballet classmates.

Her teacher, Nicola Bowden, said: "I was not surprised that Remy received a place at White Lodge. She has always shown talent, commitment and determination from an early age. It has been a pleasure to watch her grow and we will continue to do so.
