Birthday celebrations will go with a bang at a St Albans theatre.

If you like your fun fast and furious, the Company of Ten may have just what you are looking for.

The master of bedroom farce Marc Camoletti’s Happy Birthday comes to the Abbey Theatre stage later this month, bringing with it all the frantic mayhem you could wish for.

Bernard is having an affair, and so is his wife in this crazy, frantic farce which trips in and out of bedrooms.

Bernard has foolishly asked his mistress, Brigit, to his home on her birthday despite the fact that his wife Jacqueline will also be there.

He has invited his oldest friend Robert along for the ride and asks him to pretend that Brigit is his mistress.

Robert refuses as he is having an affair with Jacqueline, but Bernard cunningly involves him anyway.

By chance a temporary maid, engaged for the evening, arrives when Jacqueline and Bernard are out.

Her name just happens to be Brigit too, so naturally Robert mistakes her for Bernard’s girlfriend.

Frenetic complications ensue with plots and counter plots piling up, true identities hidden from view, bedrooms exchanged at the drop of a pair of trousers, and of course a great deal of door slamming.

How will they ever sort out the confusion, and just how did the maid acquire that fur coat and so much money?

Happy Birthday performed to great acclaim for many years on the London stage, as did Camoletti’s Boeing Boeing and Don’t Dress for Dinner, both of which have also been performed by the Company of Ten.

Performances take place on the main stage from Friday, June 29 to Saturday, June 30 at 8pm, and on Sunday, July 1 at 2.30pm.

There are further performances from Tuesday, July 3 to Saturday, July 7 at 8pm.

Tickets cost £12 and concessions £11.
