Blith Spirit for St Albans’ Company of Ten at Abbey Theatre

HALLOWEEN may have come and gone, but there are still signs of a haunting at the Abbey Theatre when The Company of Ten presents Noël Coward’s spooky comedy Blithe Spirit.
The Company will be summoning up this spirited show on their main stage from November 16, offering audiences some of Coward’s most memorable characters, including the outrageous Madame Arcati, the urbane Charles Condomine and the playfully malicious ghost Elvira.
Assuming her to be a fraud, novelist Charles Condomine invites local eccentric and medium Madame Arcati to conduct a séance as entertainment for his dinner guests and to provide material for his new book. But not only does the inept spiritualist contact the dead, she succeeds in materialising his first wife. As the mischievous spirit of Elvira runs amok, Charles’s relationship with his second wife Ruth becomes more than a little strained. Can Madame Arcati undo what she has done? Will Elvira return to the spirit world? Does Charles want to save his current marriage? Life and the afterlife get very complicated indeed.
Director Nick Strudwick says: “As part of our on-going drive to tailor our shows more closely to the needs of our audiences, the Company of Ten is introducing a Sunday matinée performance for each of our productions, ideal for family groups and for people who find travelling during the day easier. Our Blithe Spirit matinée will be on the first Sunday of the run, November 18 at 2.30pm.”
Performances continue until November 24 at the Abbey Theatre. To book tickets please go to www.abbeytheatre.org.uk. Or alternatively call the box office on 01727 857861.
