QC chamber choir’s special concert at Hertfordshire church

20:37 07 February 2012

ONE of Hertfordshire’s leading chamber choirs, QC, is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary season.

And on Saturday, February 11, the choir will perform a special concert in the magnificent setting of All Saints’ Church, in Hertford.

For the performance of Anton Bruckner’s much-loved E Minor Mass, QC members will be accompanied by the East London Brass (ELB) for what is believed to be the first-ever performance of this piece in an arrangement for voices and brass band.

The mass will be conducted by Matthew Manchester in his third full season as musical director of the choir.

He said: “I used to play with East London Brass when I first came over to the UK from Australia and it is with great pleasure that I’m able to work with this group of talented musicians once more.

“The choir and I are looking forward to this collaboration with a genuine sense of excitement.”

The remainder of the programme provides a mixture of choral music by Sullivan, Bartlet and Bruckner, together with arrangements for full brass band of compositions by Mozart and Lauridsen, among others.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are available in advance at £10 each, free for under-18s, by phoning 01992 464808 or on the door.

Jayne Murrill, music director of ELB, added: “This is a very exciting project and I have been busy getting the arrangements together over the Christmas and New Year break.

“This is part of ELB’s continued progression into 2012 and we are all looking forward to our first year in the national championship section areas alongside an exciting concert in June for the John Ireland Music Festival in Chelsea.”

For QC, highlights of the past year included a return to sing Evensong at Westminster Abbey, with a third visit scheduled for August 13, providing a fitting end to this landmark season.
