CAPTURING the working life of Cromer's last few remaining crab fishermen has become a labour of love for Norfolk artist Paul Darley.

And it is a passion he is about to share with people in Herts when he holds an exhibition from next Friday, March 14, to Saturday, March 29, at the A&K Wilson Gallery in Harpenden.

Paul loves to paint on the spot which means that he goes out in all weathers to work directly on the beach.

He sets up his easel in the early hours to paint crabmen as the tractors drag their boats down to the water for another day and in the late afternoon he is back in position to witness their return.

A local lad himself, Paul counts the men as his friends and they are often mentioned by name in the titles of his pictures.

Paul said: "Writers are often told, write about what you know and for me painting is no different. I paint about where I live and the things that I love to look at."

A selection of paintings from the exhibition can be seen at www.akwilsongallery.co.uk
