A GOTHIC spoof horror will be brought to the Maltings Arts Theatre by critically acclaimed comedy trio Gonzo Moose on Friday.

The Total Theatre Award nominees, who will be playing over 20 roles in Is That a Bolt in Your Neck?, are promising a gripping and fast-paced comedy with horrific experiments, mind-boggling love and a sensational death-defying finale.

Gonzo Moose are a Bristol-based touring comedy theatre company established in 1999 by artistic directors Mark Conway and Paschale Straiton, who trained together at UK circus and theatre centre Circomedia.

Drawing on their backgrounds in physical theatre, circus, street theatre and cabaret, they aim to combine improvisation, clowning, slapstick, puppetry and music to produce a distinctive and visually inventive style of comedy theatre with a broad appeal.

The production starts at 8pm. Tickets cost £12 with concessions of £10 and can be purchased from the theatre's box office on 01727 844222.

l A wizard invites the audience to look around his castle in a magical production hitting the Maltings Arts Theatre on Saturday. The Wizard of Castle Magic has fallen on hard times and is forced to open his enchanting home up to visitors, but things will never be the same again when his nephew Mickey and an invisible cat called Catastrophe arrive.

Many mysteries will be unravelled in this spooky but humorous play for five to 11-year-olds and their families.

The show is the work of Magic Carpet Theatre which was founded in 1982 and has been touring the world since as a company of four full-time performers and a crew.

Variety theatre, circus and puppetry is combined to form a theatrical and educational experience for the audience to enjoy.

The production starts at 3pm and tickets are £5, which can be purchased from the box office on 01727 844222.

Children over seven years can also take part in the Wonderful Wacky Wizard's Workshop between 11am and 12.30pm on Saturday to learn how to make and perform vanishing tricks and other magic.

Tickets for the workshop cost £4 or £7.50 to also include the show.
