An anonymous supporter has stepped up to allow St Albans City to keep hold of fan favourite Sean Shields for another month.

The Dagenham and Redbridge midfielder joined the Saints on August 22 on a two-month loan deal and came off the bench a day later to help City to a 2-1 win over Bishop’s Stortford. He has scored four goals, the latest coming in Saturday’s win over Weston-Super-Mare, since rejoining the club he left for the Daggers in 2013.

Shields was scheduled to return his the League Two club on Wednesday but instead will stay at Clarence Park for another month after a supporter paid for him to stay.

Speaking to the club’s official website, chairman Nick Archer said: “We are very grateful to the supporter who has agreed to fund the extension to Sean’s loan, without which the deal would not have been possible. Sean has been in super form in the last few games and has been a great asset to the team. We are delighted that Sean is staying with us for another month.”
