A look ahead to Saturday’s opponents

Woking v St Albans City

Blue Square Bet South

ST ALBANS City will look to haul themselves off the bottom of the Blue Square Bet South table when they travel to Woking tomorrow (Saturday).

The pitch has been covered at Kingfield since Wednesday evening but with snow and severe temperatures expected that game could be in doubt.

THE LOWDOWN: Tipped for promotion this season, Woking have had a poor start to the season and currently find themselves languishing in 14th place in the Blue Square Bet South table.

The Cards have won five of their 16 league games this term, finding the net just 16 times.

The Surrey side took made it to the First Round proper of the FA Cup where they took npower League One leaders Brighton & Hove Albion all the way to penalties before bowing out.

THE MANAGER: Graham Baker has been in the Woking hotseat since 2009 when he stepped in following Phil Gilchrist’s departure.

A professional with Southampton and Manchester City, Baker began his coaching career at Carshalton Athletic before moving on to Fulham. Joined Woking after an invitation from former Southampton teammate Glenn Cockerill and has been involved with the Cards ever since.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Former Leicester City striker Elvis Hammond grabbed two goals last time out as Woking overcame Harlow in the FA Trophy. The striker has six goals in just nine starts for the Cards and looks like the biggest threat to the Saints.

LAST LINEUP – vs. Harlow: Little; Anane, Doyle, McNerney, Inns; Ademola, Sawyer, Ricketts, Keehan; Hammond, Cousins. LAST TIME: Ricky Anane’s 34th minute strike was all that separated the two sides when they met at Clarence Park in September.

The Cards were nearly made to pay for their profligacy at the Park as they spurned a number of chances but Anane was on hand to bundle the ball home and seal the three points for Graham Baker’s side.

The Saints’ last visit to Kingfield resulted in a 6-0 defeat in last season’s FA Trophy just 11 days after Lamine Sagna’s goal had given the Saints an excellent 1-0 win in the league fixture.

TEAM NEWS: The Saints have a gentleman’s agreement with Woking not to play on-loan striker Ollie Palmer against his parent club.

Adam Everitt also sits out as he completes the second match of his two game ban but 21-year-old midfielder Nick Chrysanthou is available after the Saints received international clearance for the former Tottenham man.
