The experience of Ben Herd and David Noble could be vital ahead of St Albans City’s FA Cup clash with Carlisle United says manager Ian Allinson.

The pair both have plenty of experience of league football and the FA Cup.

And with nerves and excitement potentially playing a part for St Albans, having those two in the dressing room will be a boost.

Allinson said: “It’s massive in terms of their experience. They’ve both played over 300 league games and both have given us something different this year.

“They’re going to be people who can calm us down in terms of our younger players. They might get excited as the game approaches or during the game. On Monday [against London Colney] a few of the younger players got excited and tried too hard to impress.

“We’ve got to make sure we don’t try too hard. We’ve got to relax our bodies, keep the ball and hopefully do things going forward.”

Being ill sucks. No matter what’s got you down – the flu, a broken bone, diabetes, cancer – it’s a horrible place to be. Your body is weaker and less capable. The drugs you take mess with your mind and your moods and sometimes can make you feel even worse than when you started. Mental ill-health is no different. The brain is an organ, and like any organ, it doesn’t always function to the medical standard of “normal”. Mine certainly doesn’t.
