Verulamians remain top of Herts Middlesex One after a comfortable 33-5 win over Barnet Elizabethans.

It was another comfortable victory for the Cotlandswick-based rugby club, although due to more positional changes because of an ever-growing injury list, some of the play was not as emphatic as in previous weeks.

However, from the kick-off it did not take long for Vees to cut loose and Adam Rees broke up the wing before darting inside to put Josh Lawrence over for the first try.

That was converted by by the ever-steady George Harding.

Ten minutes later Tom Maile, who went on to have an outstanding game at fly-half, flashed in for Vees second which Harding again converted to make the score 14-0.

Barnet were then gifted a try but 10 minutes before half-time Bradley Bruce outpaced his opposite number to push the score to 19-5.

Barnet then proceeded to have a 20 minute period of total dominance, but Vees defensive wall was never truly tested and Harry Mack, Vees storming prop, landed a try under the posts.

Bruce on the wing rounded off the afternoon by racing in from halfway for his second try, again converted by Harding.

It was their seventh consecutive bonus-point victory and leaves them four points clear of London French in second place.

Verulamians take a week off from their league campaign this Saturday when they travel to Beccles, in Norfolk, for a second round Junior Vase match.
