RADLETT saw their title hopes take a huge dent as they were defeated at Tring Park on Saturday.
Hosts Tring Park batted first and Keith Dutch fired a century as they posted 262-2 off 66 overs. Dutch (108) was supported by James Steptoe (73 not out). Shane Burger and Stuart Browne picked up the only wickets to fall for Radlett.
In reply, Radlett battled well with Felix Walker falling on 92, just short of what would have been an impressive century, and Middlesex prospect Kabir Toor blasted 52. Shane Burger scored 45 and Matthew Soffair contributed 21 but Morne van Vuuren took 6-66 as Radlett were dismissed for 239.
Radlett are now in fifth place in the tight HCPL Division One, 26 points behind leaders Oxford who they face away from home on the last day of the season. On Saturday the Cobden Hill outfit are at home to strugglers Falkland and must take the victory.
Radlett II continued their fine form in Division Two of the Saracens Herts League with an amazing victory at home to Knebworth Park II.
After winning the toss, Park smashed 252-6 off their 53 overs with Alex Richmond hitting 110 and Colin Letford scoring 82. John Barr claimed 4-25 for Radlett.
In reply, openers Jim Chaudry (68) and Lloyd Paternott (48) got Radlett off to a good start and Barr (47) continued the assault. Number four Richard Cameron smashed 64 not out and David Robinson fired 20 not out as Radlett recorded a stunning win on 254-4 off 45 overs.
In Division Four Radlett III hosted Clarendon and were defeated after winning the toss and failing with the bat. Radlett posted 138-9 off their 53 overs and in reply, Clarendon hit 140-4 off 26.3 overs.
Radlett IV lost the toss for the first time in 2008 at Letchworth III.
A good bowling show from Radlett restricted the hosts to 120 all out. Young star Shameel Ahmed impressed again with 5 for 35 off 15 overs following his six last week. Support was provided by Richard Hardy, grabbing 3 for 14.
The batting proved difficult and Radlett only just scraped home with Shameel (22 not out) again starring with a very mature performance to win the game with only one wicket to spare. Tony Johnson (26) and Jamie Wells (22) also contributed well as Radlett reached 123-9 to win.
Radlett V entered the match away at Sawbridgeworth IV on a confident high with six wins from the last eight games.
Radlett lost the toss and were surprisingly asked to bat which seemed a strange choice of tactic by Sawbo. Radlett rattled up 202-5 from 47 overs. Mike Dexter (43) impressed alongside Andy Griffiths (45) and Mayur Hindocha (37).
In reply, Sawbo were bowled out for just 126. Vikram Rajput took 4-30 and Hindocha picked up 3-4 off four overs with all three victims bowled. Matt Barrett took two wickets and Brendan Jones one.
