A club record stand of 257 helped Radlett to an astonishing 10-wicket win over Welwyn Garden City at Cobden Hill.

The sides had gone into the game on Saturday tied at the top of the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League Premier Division after winning their opening three games of the year.

However, 152 from Radlett’s South African coach, Jon-Jon Smuts, backed up by 86 from Frazer Crawford saw the hosts home to victory.

Smuts knock, which saw him hit 26 fours and one six, came off just 106 balls.

It is the type of form he will be looking to capitalise on when he heads to the Caribbean Premier League T20 next month to play for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.

Their stand was Radlett’s highest in the league for the first wicket, beating 229 by Michael Voss and Middlesex star John Carr at Hoddesdon in 1991.

But although Smuts and Crawford took the plaudits, the key to victory came in Welwyn Garden’s innings.

The turning point was a flying catch by wicketkeeper Charlie Nicholls, off an outiside-edge from Randeep Sanghera, to dismiss in-form Herts batsman Dan Blacktopp for 54.

That left WGC on 145-3 and Owais Shah’s 71 from 56 balls was the best Welwyn’s batsmen could muster as they finished on 256-8.

Sanghera, Smuts and Fakir Dungaria all picked up two wickets.

Radlett made it two wins from two over the weekend with a seven wicket win over Stevenage in the opening Group D fixture of the County 20/20 Championship.

Stevenage chose to bat first and set 121-5 from their alloted overs.

Crawford though showed his form was not limited to the 50-over version of the game with a sensational 74 not out from just 44 balls.

That was enough to see Radlett to victory with over six overs to spare.
