ST Albans stepped up their pursuit of a top-two spot in Division One of the Saracens Herts League with a fine win at Reed on Saturday.

The Saints won the toss and after a good start from Reed's openers, Surrey off spinner Murtaza Hussain and seamer Richard O'Toole (3-39) pegged back the Reed middle order with support from left-arm spinner Ben Ramsay (two wickets). Hussain picked up 4-20 off 20 overs with four maidens in a brilliant bowling display.

In reply, solid contributions in the 30s from Suffolk captain Phil Caley, Ed Hart and Yasir Arafat ensured St Albans won comfortably. St Albans are level on points with Letchworth in second spot with three games to go.

l St Albans III blitzed hosts Eversholt II with a sparkling display in Division Seven of the Herts League. After being asked to bat first, St Albans posted a dominant 212 all out off 50.1 overs. In reply, Eversholt were bowled out for just 74 off 37.5 overs.
