Judo: St Albans pick up 19 medals at Nationals

St Albans Judo Club scooped 19 medals at the British Judo Council Open Nationals in Northamptonshire.
The Open is one of the largest and most prestigious events on the judo calendar, with 500 entrants on the day from all over Great Britain and Ireland. Being an Open, it is open to judo players from the BJA and AJA as well as BJC members.
Out of the 24 entrants from SAJC, club members came home with six gold, four silver and nine bronze medals.
Chief instructor Andrew Paveley said: “I am extremely proud of all the club members who entered this very tough competition. Their hard work and dedication to their training has certainly paid off, shown by these great results.
“Those who did not medal should also be very proud of themselves as they all showed great potential in their competition judo.”
The dedication of all the coaches and students also saw seven junior and senior members selected to represent Team BJC in Antwerp later his month.
