MIDFIELDER Darren Shea went in goal for St Peter's on Saturday and kept a clean sheet to help secure the points against Hinton at Lemsford.

With regular goalkeeper Johnny Shearer out injured, and any cover also missing, Shea took the gloves and handled the task well.

Both teams attacked with sparkle but it was the home side who showed the cutting edge needed to find the net. With the Hinton defence in disarray, Sean Workman saw his strike helped over the line by a defender.

After the break both sides missed chances and the Saints hung on to their slender lead in blustery conditions.

A second goal eventually arrived following a mistake from Hinton goalkeeper Gary Collins which allowed Tony Arnold to tap the ball home.

The visitors squandered chances to get back into the contest before Workman wrapped up the job for St Peter's. The left winger drew the goalkeeper and fired home his 11th goal of the season.

The 3-0 win was an eighth league success of the campaign for Saints and managers Andy Goodchild and Mitch Morris have seen the squad become more competitive in recent weeks. Saints are still looking for a goalkeeper to take the number one jersey with Shearer injured.

Before the match on Saturday, players and officials from both sides stood in silence for a minute remembering life member, former player and manager Peter Atkins and chairman Barry Atkinson's wife Norma, who both died recently. The win proved a fitting tribute.

Saints entertain Sarratt on Saturday with a 3pm kick off at Lemsford for the Division One clash.
