HARPENDEN Town crashed to defeat at Royston Town in their opening fixture of the Division One campaign on Saturday.

Three first half goals and a late fourth condemned Harps to a heavy loss.

Harps went away to Crawley Green on Wednesday and play at Bedford FC on Saturday in Division One.

l Harpenden Town were beaten by Hoddesdon Town in the Herts Charity Shield quarter final on Saturday, August 2.

Ali Collins scored for Harpenden but by then the damage had been done as a sluggish opening proved costly.

Two early goals and a third just after the half time break put Hoddesdon in control. Harpenden continued to work hard but relied on goalkeeper Kevin Christou to make several quality stops, before Collins hit a consolation effort.

Harpenden Town: Christou, Armitage, Dawson, Golder, Gilham, Taaffe, Turkentine (Cpt.), Wooldridge, Collins, Ewington, Doonan. Subs used: Dawes, Jefferies, Roe. Unused subs: Daved, Johnson.
