LONDON Colney were unfortunate to lose their FA Cup replay at Sporting Bengal United in Tower Hamlets on Wednesday.

The home side opened the scoring midway through the first half and although Colney responded with a second half onslaught they could not find an equaliser. Jermaine and Cain Davey each had lively games for Colney but it was the United goalkeeper who kept the brothers at bay with a string of fine saves.

Colney goalkeeper Anthony Ladyman continued his excellent start to the season with a strong performance.

Striker Ashley Aimakhu was denied late on by a spectacular save from the United goalkeeper as Colney exited the competition.

On Saturday Paul Danslow notched his fourth goal of the season to earn Colney the FA Cup replay.

For the third match running the Blueboys were caught cold and conceded a goal in the first minute as Sporting Bengal United, from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, took the upper hand. Skipper Nizamul Hoque picked up a pass on the left side of the Colney area and cracked home the opener for a shock lead.

Hoque nearly made it 2-0 when he cut in from the left but could only find the side-netting and Colney 'keeper Anthony Ladyman then tipped over a shot from Isaac Durowade.

Colney came back into the contest as the first half progressed and Sam Mitchell had a shot saved and then flashed an effort just wide.

The Blueboys upped the pressure and, from a Colin Wilson corner, Mitchell dived to head just wide. The Blueboys finally equalised in the 42nd minute when Sam Mitchell cut in from the right and his stinging shot was pushed out by United goalkeeper Pape Diagne to Paul Danslow who tucked the loose ball home for 1-1.

Both sides had chances to win the match in the second half. Colney striker Danny Fitzgerald shot just wide after a surging run before Ladyman quickly recovered after a poor throw out to block a shot from Joe M'Petsi when he looked certain to give the visitors the lead.

Diagne tipped over a cracking shot from Greg Shaw and Cain Davey also saw his vicious effort parried away after a knock down from Dave Corran.

Danslow set up Shaw late on but his low drive was pushed away by the United goalkeeper.

London Colney: Ladyman, Benning, McCafferty, Gorrell, Dickie, Shaw, Mitchell (J. Davey), Wilson (Beschizza), Danslow, Fitzgerald (C. Davey), Corran. Unused subs: Butcher, Bindley.

Colney host Hoddesdon in Division One on Saturday at Cotlandswick. The Blueboys then travel to Tokyngton Manor on Tuesday.
