Harpenden has the 11th highest number of streets with properties valued at £1m-plus outside of London, according to Zoopla’s Rich List 2017.

The town has 122 streets where the average property is worth £1m-plus, compared to St Albans’ 105 (17th place), Welwyn’s 54 (52nd) and Hatfield’s 27 (110th).

Guildford in Surrey topped the list of areas outside London, with 204 £1m-plus streets.

The home counties have nothing on Kensington Palace Gardens (W8) however, which remains the priciest street in Britain, with the average home there now worth £35,696,711 (£2,569,432 less than a year ago).

Celebs who call Kensington Palace Gardens home include Formula One heiress Tamara Ecclestone, Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich, and current Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah.

The most expensive street in Hertfordshire is Rickmansworth’s Temple Gardens, where an average property costs £4,060,609. It came second on the list of most expensive streets by county outside London, behind Golf Club Road, Weybridge, Surrey, which topped the list with an average property value of £5,937,835.

There are now 14,417 streets in Britain where the average property value is £1 million or over, up from 12,418 in 2016.

Lawrence Hall, spokesperson for Zoopla, said: “Whilst London will always prove attractive for those with deep pockets, Surrey’s Virginia Water and Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire certainly provide better value when it comes to space.

“Heading north, homeowners will find they’re likely to get much more square footage for every million spent, especially in Scotland and North East England.”
