A woman was hospitalised yesterday (Thursday) evening after her car came off the road and crashed into a bench outside a church in Harpenden.

The woman, believed to be in her 60s, was cut out of her car at about 5.30pm by the fire service and received trauma care at the scene.

The ambulance service arrived soon after and the woman was taken to Luton and Dunstable hospital with chest pains. Her injuries are not believed be life-threatening.

Her car came off Southdown Road and collided with a bench outside Southdown Methodist Church Halls and the road was closed by police until about 8.30pm.

It is believed that three vehicles, a Volkswagen Tiguan, a Nissan Juke and an Audi A4, were involved and but only one collided with the bench.

No one else was injured in the collision.

Recently we, as a family (minus two of the kids), visited The Lodge RSPB reserve in Sandy, Bedfordshire. I had never been before, which is perhaps amiss of me as a birdwatcher as it is the headquarters of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds or RSPB and only 45 minutes drive from home.
