It’s that time of the year again when the town is on the lookout for one lucky young lady to be this year’s Potters Bar carnival princess.

This year’s carnival takes place on Sunday, June 17, and your daughter could be leading the procession, alongside two maids of honour.

Peter and Sue Weaver, of the carnival’s organising committee, are calling on young girls to opt for the opportunity to be given the main role in the town’s biggest annual event.

All princess applicants for the Potters Bar Edition-backed carnival must be aged between 10 and 13, while maids of honour applicants need to be aged between six and 10.

As always, the parade will wind its way through the town before heading to Elm Court for an afternoon of fun and games.

Peter told the Potters Bar Edition: “We have a jam-packed afternoon lined up with a new band, Long Eaton Militaires Marching Band, the return of the American Civil War skirmish re-enactment, which proved very popular, the prize-winning Dacorum Majorettes, plus others.

“As well as the arena events, we will have pony rides, the ever popular children’s fair with a giant bouncy slide, Punch and Judy and many other attractions.

“As usual there will be stalls manned by charities from the town and surroundings, plus food stalls with barbecues, beer, coffee and sandwich stalls etc.”

Peter added: “As has now become a tradition, there will be the ever popular Schools Art Exhibition in Elm Court gym.”

The Potters Bar Edition will be printing the carnival princess entry form each week until the closing date, which is noon on May 18.
