Damage to BT cables was to blame for two days of disruption to services last week.

Deliberate cuts to network fibre cables along Hemel Hempstead Road last Tuesday, April 30, affected broadband services and also left some residents with an engaged tone when trying to make an outgoing telephone call.

Henry Langstone of Flamsteadbury Lane said BT flooded the village with engineers in an attempt to solve the problem.

He explained: "I spotted up to 15 vehicles clustered around Hemel Hempstead Road last week and heard on the grapevine that they were repairing some quite serious damage."

A spokesperson for BT said the incident was reported to the police and added: "We suffered apparent malicious damage to our cables in the Redbourn area and engineers worked around the clock to complete all the repairs by midday last Wednesday.

Recently we, as a family (minus two of the kids), visited The Lodge RSPB reserve in Sandy, Bedfordshire. I had never been before, which is perhaps amiss of me as a birdwatcher as it is the headquarters of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds or RSPB and only 45 minutes drive from home.
