Storm Doris caused damage to a tourist site and historical monument in St Albans, the station’s South Signal Box.

A replica lower quadrant wooden arm was ripped off in the gales on February 23 - it is being repaired in time for the next visitor open day on March 12.

The real thing is too delicate to be on display, as it was built in the 1880s.

A member of the St Albans Signal Box Preservation Trust, Howard Green, said it was good it was only a replica, and the winds didn’t “blow the whole thing down”.

People who visit the signal box can see a slideshow of its restoration, signalling items on display, and other railway exhibits.

There are also levers to pull and oil lamps to light.
