A Harpenden school raised more than £3,000 for charity during February with a tuck shop and a lip-sync battle.

St George’s School in Sun Lane kicked off their month of fundraising with Goddard House students selling tuck at break time. The tuck shop raised £400 each for two charities- the British Thyroid Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support.

As part of the Senior Prefects Day Of Fun (or SPDOF), senior prefects sold 300 tickets for their lip-sync battle, which featured Jackson 5, Abba, Spice Girls, McFly and One Direction medleys.

The event raised £2,525 for Harpenden Mencap, Unique, which supports people with rare chromosome disorders, and Mulemi Community School in Zambia.

Headmistress Helen Barton said: “I am extremely proud of all our pupils for their dedication and commitment to fundraising; this is clearly evident in their enthusiasm to support these worthy causes, although I’m sure the delicious tuck helps!”
