The Maltings in St Albans has adopted a Guide Dog puppy who will be raised to help people with sight loss.

Malty the Maltings Puppy, a golden retriever and Labrador cross, was born on June 6.

To become a Guide Dog, Malty is being trained at The National Breeding Centre where volunteer puppy specialists play, cuddle and spend time with the trainee puppies, while staff provide round-the-clock care.

Malty has now been placed with her puppy walker, where she will remain until she is around a year old before being transferred to a training centre.

Maltings centre manager Phil Corrigan said: “We felt compelled to help and were able to make a donation and offer space for activities to raise funds and awareness of the Guide Dogs for the Blind within the St Albans area. The whole team is on board and we are all very excited about Malty, we can’t wait to meet her when she is old enough to visit the centre.”

Recently we, as a family (minus two of the kids), visited The Lodge RSPB reserve in Sandy, Bedfordshire. I had never been before, which is perhaps amiss of me as a birdwatcher as it is the headquarters of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds or RSPB and only 45 minutes drive from home.
