St Albans and Radlett campaigners chosen for £15k fellowship

Two campaigners have been selected to travel the world and receive a grant of around £15,000.

Alex Holmes, an anti-bullying campaigner from Radlett, will visit Australia, New Zealand and Norway to explore how to increase happiness and wellbeing in schools with a fellowship supported by the Mental Health Foundation.

Laura Randall from St Albans, the associate head of child safety online for the NSPCC, will visit Canada, Russia, and the US to look into how professionals are supported in identifying children at risk of abuse online.

The two are among 150 people from the UK who were chosen to win a Churchill Fellowship.

Chief executive of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Julia Weston said: “Churchill Fellows search the world for ways to improve their communities and professions.”

One of my favourite summer activities as a child was pond-dipping. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a house with a fairly large pond in the garden and so my pond-dipping activities often extended over days and weren’t as much dipping as a thorough exploration of the life in the pond.
