A 53 year old Harpenden woman who was arrested after a multiple-vehicle collision at the weekend has received treatment at hospital.

Further details of a collision involving three cars on Saturday, October 29 on the A5183 Dunstable Road in Redbourn, have been released today (Tuesday) as Herts Police officers launch an appeal seeking witnesses and information.

At 1.24pm on Saturday, a blue Skoda Octavia, which had been travelling northbound towards junction 9 of the M1, collided with a silver Renault Clio and a blue Renault Clio – both of which were travelling in the opposite direction.

St Albans and Hemel Hempstead firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the driver and passenger of the silver Clio.

A woman passenger, in her 80s, was taken by Herts Air Ambulance to the Royal London Hospital where she remains in a serious condition at this time.

The driver, a man also in his 80s, was taken to Luton and Dunstable Hospital for treatment.

Minor injuries were suffered by the driver of the blue Clio, a man in his 50s.

The road was closed until about 7pm to allow investigations to take place at the scene.

A 53 year old woman from Harpenden was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol. It is understood that she also went to hospital.

PC Adam Frost from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Forensic Collision Investigation Unit, investigating, said: “I would appeal to other drivers who were in the area at the time of the incident and who witnessed what occurred to please contact me.

“I would also be keen to hear from anyone who saw the Octavia prior to the collision.”

Anyone who can assist the investigation is asked to contact the Herts Police non-emergency number 101 quoting Operation Resemble.

Recently we, as a family (minus two of the kids), visited The Lodge RSPB reserve in Sandy, Bedfordshire. I had never been before, which is perhaps amiss of me as a birdwatcher as it is the headquarters of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds or RSPB and only 45 minutes drive from home.
