ROADS near the fire at Wood Recycling Services remain open this evening (Wednesday, 14) as firefighters continue to control the blaze.

Engines from Garston, St Albans, Cheshunt and Welwyn Garden City are currently at the Appspond Lane site protecting the surrounding area.

The A414 northbound carriageway was closed and subsequently reopened this morning.

Drivers faced 24 hours of road closures on the A414 and the A417 both ways earlier in the week because of the fire.

Highways crews remain on standby and will close the roads again if smoke poses a safety issue overnight.
